There was a time where a blazer was either part of a school uniform, or part of very corporate work attire. But times, they are a changing, as the humble (and not so humble) blazer has weaselled its way into your wardrobes, and our hearts. And for good reason...
Celebrities, editors, and certified Fashion People are fans of them for pretty much any occasion, from a casual brunch to a chic date night. However, if you've never worn one before then working out how to do so can feel like a daunting prospect.
1 CORPORATE WORKWEAR
Opt for a classic black blazer that can be dressed up with a white shirt for a more corporate working environment. You can still inject a bit of personality into it by opting for a shirt that has contrasting piping inside or mismatched buttons. If it's a bit too much for a corporate meeting, then simply button the blazer up to hide it. If you're going out after work then just bring a trainers in your bag and swap your heels for a chunky pair to freshen up the look.
2 INFORMAL WORKWEAR
For a more informal, yet chic, look, you can style the blazer with a grey roll neck and team with jeans or slim black trousers. You can also team it with a relaxed fit pair of trousers, or culottes, in the same colour. This keeps thing smart but adds a stylised look - go bold with a brighter colour palette to really make an impact.
3 OFF DUTY/RELAXED AND CHIC
For a more relaxed look, pair a blazer with a printed or statement tee, and mum jeans. You can also roll up the sleeves which is always a great styling trick.A boho dress can also work well with a blazer, just make sure to choose one that picks up the colour of the blazer too. A satin slip dress with a jumper on top is also perfectly completed with a blazer for an of the moment look - if you want to keep it timeless, go for camel or cream tones.
4 DINNER PARTY VIBES
Dressing for an evening in can be tricky. You want to make an effort, but you don't want to go OTT as you are going to be sitting in someone's dining room. So what do you do? You've guessed it, add a blazer. Go for an oversized, textured wool one to soften the look and add a jumper underneath. You can either add a white blouse so that a smarter collar pokes through, or pair with jeans and a pair of loafers. Finally, white jeans with a white blouse and a blazer is also a relaxed way to channel dinner party chic.
EVENING/PARTY
For evening and party, a blazer looks so great with nothing underneath as it has a high neckline, and an open back. For this, we suggest pairing it with a mini-skirt and over-the-knee boots for a statement look. Wear any blazer over your shoulders with an evening dress and heels for a super-chic, elegant look.
